Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment was sentenced to six months in jail and a year on probation.

Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment was found guilty in an appellate court of threatening retribution. As a result, the court sentenced him to six months in jail and one year on probation.

The Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 6-3 held an appeal hearing on November 8 KST about Yang Hyun Suk's crimes against the Act on the Enhanced Punishment for Certain Crimes, focused on charges related to threats of retaliation. The court overturned the previous non-guilty verdict and sentenced Yang Hyun Suk to six months in jail and one year of probation. In addition, Mr. Kim, a former YG managing associate, was sentenced to four months in prison and a one-year probation term.

The August 2016 allegations stated that Yang Hyun Suk attempted to stifle an inquiry by pressuring and threatening Han Seo Hee, a public interest informant. This related to the claim that B.I., a former YG member of the band iKON, bought and used narcotics.

The court said, "The prosecution filed an appeal, claiming the victim's statement was credible," while analyzing the decision. However, the defendant's right to a defense was hampered by the indictment's revisions, which included a coerced interview with Yang Hyun Suk.

The court went on to say that a threat could only be successfully shown if the victim was suffering from a particular injury. "The victim's story changed a lot, and it's hard to say that the changes were entirely organic if there were parts she barely remembered halfway through the inquiry. The prosecution's inability to produce concrete proof makes it difficult to validate their claim of injury under covert circumstances."

However, the court acknowledged that Yang Hyun Suk's accusations of holding an unlawful gathering or using force might cause psychological discomfort and excessive pressure. When the court concluded its ruling on Yang Hyun Suk and Mr. Kim, it said, "As the representative of YG, he misused his social standing and exercised dominance over B.I via reprimanding him, and therefore, he is deemed guilty." The court also postponed its sentencing.
