Wheesung dies at age 43; the cause of death is being looked into

At approximately 6:29 p.m., Wheesung was found collapsed at an apartment in Seoul's Gwangjin neighborhood, according to the police and fire service. Emergency personnel were sent to the area after his family reported the occurrence.

Since authorities believe a considerable length of time had elapsed before he was discovered, they are currently looking into the cause of death. The likelihood of a suicide or overdose is being considered by the police. They verified that they are investigating whether a will was left and the specific circumstances surrounding his death, and they said there were no indications of criminal conduct, such as outside interference.

Fans and coworkers are very grieved by the news of his passing. On the 15th, Wheesung and vocalist KCM were supposed to perform together at the Daegu EXCO Auditorium. The caption for a social media post he made just four days before to his death said, "See you on March 15th when the diet is over."

Wheesung's first album, "Like a Movie," was released in 2002. His popular song, "Can't I?" catapulted him to stardom. Songs like "With Me," "The Day We Met Again," "Incurable Disease," and "One Year" helped him continue to become more well-known.

Apart from his solo success, Wheesung was renowned for his ability to write lyrics. Younha's Password 486, Lee Hyori's HEY MR. BIG (Boys in Girl), T-ara's Crazy Because of You, Orange Caramel's Magic Girl, TWICE's Dance The Night Away, Ivy's Sonata of Temptation, and Ailee's Heaven are just a few of the popular songs he wrote lyrics for.

Wheesung started his own independent label, Real Slow Company, in 2017. However, the sudden death of his longtime manager, which apparently left him in a state of profound shock, had a major emotional impact on his career.

Wheesung encountered legal issues in 2021 after being found guilty of unlawfully delivering the psychotropic sleep sedative propofol, which resulted in a one-year prison sentence and two-year probation. The court discovered that between September and November 2019, he administered 3,690 ml of propofol 11 times and paid 6.5 million won for 3,910 ml.

He received an injection of etomidate, another anesthetic, and was discovered unconscious in Songpa gu and Gwangjin gu in March and April 2020. At the time, etomidate was not considered a narcotic, although having effects that were comparable to those of propofol. However, on February 28th, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety declared that, as a result of a revision to the Enforcement Decree of the Narcotics Control Act, etomidate and six other compounds would henceforth be categorized as either narcotics or psychiatric drugs.

The circumstances of Wheesung's death are still being looked into by authorities.
