In Japan, ILLIT wins Rookie of the Year before making their formal debut

Even before making their official debut in Japan, ILLIT won a renowned rookie prize.

ILLIT has been chosen to receive the New Artist Award at the '66th Japan Record Awards,' according to their agency, Belift Lab.

"This year, we wanted to win a rookie award, and we're so happy and honored to see this dream come true," the group said on Belift Lab, expressing their joy. We'll keep developing and giving our fans new songs and performances."

Since its founding in 1959, the Japan Composer's Association has presented the Japan Record Awards, one of the nation's most prominent music honors. With their accomplishment, ILLIT becomes the first K-pop girl group to win this award in 13 years, after Girls’ Generation and 2NE1. Notably, ILLIT is the first group to receive this honor without making their formal debut in Japan, which is a unique and uncommon achievement.

With their Korean releases, ILLIT has already achieved considerable recognition in Japan despite not having made their debut there. Their first mini-album, 'Super Real Me,' came out in March and included the breakthrough song "Magnetic," which broke records. In the quickest amount of time ever for a female group single, the song reached over 100 million cumulative streams on the Oricon and Japan Record Association charts. TikTok Japan's 'Song of the Summer 2024' list also featured "Magnetic" at number five, demonstrating ILLIT's effect on short-form content trends.

With the #1 trending artist title in the 'Shibuya109 Lab Trend Awards 2024' and the top spot in the 'Tower Records Music 2024 Mid-Year Streaming Rankings' for new artists, ILLIT has maintained its dominance of the charts.

To further capitalize on their rising fame, ILLIT will be included on NHK's 'Kohaku Uta Gassen,' Japan's renowned year-end music show that airs every year on December 31. The show is a cultural phenomenon, drawing high viewership and media attention, and is well-known for showcasing the year's most well-liked and significant performers.

ILLIT is vigorously marketing "I'LL LIKE YOU," their second mini-album, which includes the song "Tick-Tack." As of November 20, "Tick-Tack" was the most popular audio rating for Instagram Reels in both Korea and Japan due to its catchy tune, which has caused it to go viral on social media.
