Foreign criticism of BLACKPINK Jennie's recent wedding guest outfit is met with a response from K-Netizens

Discussions over cultural disparities in wedding clothes are being sparked by Korean netizens' responses to a number of foreign remarks regarding BLACKPINK Jennie's recent wedding guest outfit.

The responses condemning Korea's wedding culture, where guests often wear clean, semi-casual attire in black or black-and-white, surprised many K-netizens. "I suppose this is what you'd call cultural differences?" the forum user who posted these remarks went on to say. To avoid drawing more attention than the bride and groom, isn't it courteous to wear black and white? That it's being equated to a funeral astounds me.

According to K-netizens, guests in South Korea usually dress in subdued hues like black and white as a sign of respect for the bride and groom, especially to avoid competing with the bride's appearance. Even though the custom of not wearing white is not exclusive to Korea, K-netizens were taken aback by the intense outrage directed at Jennie's attire when she attended a friend's wedding.

The majority of Korean internet users responded to the criticism by saying that other cultures should "respect South Korean customs" and that, despite the melancholy nature of all-black, Jennie's attire appeared official rather than casual.

However, other K-netizens only partially agreed, pointing out that guests' choice for dark clothing might make weddings appear "too somber," as many visitors wear black to blend in.

Furthermore, others said that having weddings in the Western way is "not traditional Korean culture to begin with" and that even in Korea, it is less common to wear all black.
