MAMAMOO (Korean: 마마무) is a South Korean girl group formed by RBW Entertainment and debuted on June 18, 2014. The group is composed of four members: Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, Hwasa.


What does MAMAMOO Stand For?

MAMAMOO’s name refers to symbolic of the first time a baby babbles. Also, it has the meaning of approaching instinctively and primitively like a baby.


What Does the Fandom Name 'MOO MOO' Mean?

MOO MOO created by doubling the end of Mamamoo. The Korean word for radish is 무 (moo if romanized)

Historic Moments


2014 June - Under Rainbow Bridge World (RBW) Entertainment, Mamamoo was created with the intention of having a girl group that was talented in both singing and performing live. "Mr. Ambiguous" is the lead track from their debut EP, Hello. One of the members, Moonbyul, created the choreography for the group's debut song, "Mr. Ambiguity."


2014 November – The second mini album "Piano Man" by Mamamoo debuted with the title track.














2015 January – For the first time, MAMAMOO took part in the performance of "Immortal Songs". They outperformed their forerunners on their first attempt, scored highly, and gained notice. MAMAMOO then started to rank among the idol groups that featured on the show the most frequently.





2015 June – The lead track "Um Oh Ah Yeh" from Mamamoo's third EP, Pinky Funky, was also published. Their first top-three hit, the song peaked at number three on the Gaon Chart. Additionally, three of the members—Hwasa, Wheein, and Moonbyul—appeared on stage and in the music video wearing men's attire, making a big impression.




2016 January – Mamamoo pre-released an R&B ball “I Miss You”, from their first full-length album.












2016 February – “1 cm Taller Than You“ was pe-released with a music video on 12 Feb 2016. The complete album was discharged on 26 Feb 2016, debuting at number three on Gaon Chart. The title song “You’re the best


(넌 is 뭔들)” moreover debuted at number three but peaked at number one the taking after week.






2016 March – Mamamoo received their first win with the song “You’re the Best” on Inkigayo. They received eight wins total for the single.









2016 August – Mamamoo released the singles “Angel” and “Dab Dab” as the subgroup of Solar and Wheein, another subgroup of Moonbyul and Hwasa respectively.



2016 November – Mamamoo had a comeback with their fourth EP, Memory. The lead single was "Décalcomanie".




2017 June – The group released their fifth EP Purple with the lead single “Yes I Am”. The song climbed to the number one spot of unique listeners in 24 hours on Melon for a girl group quickly. Finally, the song “Yes I Am” received seven wins in the music show. Also, Purple peaked at number one on the Billboard World Albums Chart.



2018 January – Mamamoo released a pre-release single “Paint Me” to be a prelude to their up-and-coming-project arrangement “Four Seasons, Four Colors”. The objective of the series is to show four scaled-down albums, each combining one color and a matching characteristic for each season. The group said they wish to present their profundity as artists and show a more mature style in this project.




2018 March – Mamamoo began the project with 6th EP Yellow Flower which debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart. This album had gotten to be their, first number-one album since their 2014 debut.

Moreover, “Starry Night” which was a song that highlighted Latin and dance-pop was released alongside the album with an accompanying music video. The song debuted and crested at number two on Gaon Digital Chart, winning 44.7 million Gaon Index points in its debut week. It moreover positioned at number six on the mid-year and 13 on the year-end editions of the Gaon Digital Chart, making it the fourth-highest-charting song by a girl group on the latter. Moreover, this song earned nine wins.



2018 April - “Starry Night” also earned the group their first music recording certification since Gaon Music Chart and Korean Music & Content Association introduced certification.









2018 July - Mamamoo discharged the single “Rainy Season” as the pre-release single from their up-and-coming collection. “Rainy Season” crested at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart, behind as it were Blackpink’s “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and was designated for Best Female Vocal Performance at the 2018 Genie Music Awards. Following this, the group discharged the seven EP, Red Moon. The EP debuted and topped at number three on the Gaon Album Chart with 38000 duplicates sold. The EP debuted at number four on the Billboard World Album with 1000 duplicates sold, marking their best U.S. sales week, and gave the group their first-ever appearance on the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart, entering the chart at number 25.



The lead single "Egotistic" with Latin-pop, discharged nearby the EP, crested at number four on the Gaon Digital Chart and the Billboard World DigitalSongsSales chart, earning the group their fifth top-ten entry on the latter chart. The song got two wins.











2018 October - Mamamoo discharged their debut Japanese single, the re-recorded Japanese version of their 2016 single "Décalcomanie" and also included b-side "You Don't Know Me", a pop track that serves as their first unique Japanese song. "Décalcomanie" peaked at number 11 on the week-by-week Oricon Singles Chart, with over 9,000 copies sold.





2018 November - the group released their eighth EP Blue;S, which serves as the third installment of the "Four Seasons, Four Colors" arrangement of albums. Blue;S, which centers on memberSolar, peaked at number seven on the Gaon Album Chart. The lead single "Wind Flower" peaked at number nine on the Gaon Digital Chart.




2019 February - the group released the Japanese form of "Wind Flower", alongside its b-side "SleepTalk", as their second Japanese-language single. "Wind Flower" peaked at number 16 on the Oricon Singles Chart, selling 7,000 copies.









2019 March - Mamamoo released their ninth EP, White Wind, and the fourth and last installment of the "Four Seasons, Four Colors" project, White Wind, with the lead single "Gogobebe".







2019 April - White Wind debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart, offering about 60,000 physical copies. "Gogobebe" moreover saw decent commercial victory, peaking at number five on the Gaon Digital Chart and placing at number 72 on the annual chart. The song also topped at number two on both the Billboard Korea K-Pop Hot 100 and Billboard World DigitalSongsSales charts.




2019 July - Mamamoo released a new promotional single titled "Gleam" in an album with the brand Davich Eyeglasses. The dance and pop single saw minor success, peaking at number 89 on the Gaon Digital Chart and at number 15 on the Billboard World DigitalSongsSales chart.




2019 August - Mamamoo was announced to be joining the Mnet reality competition show Queendom as one of six teams. The show could be a "comeback battle" between six trending girl group acts to "determine the real number one" when all six groups discharge their singles at the same time. Queendom debuted on August 26 and ran for ten add up to episodes, finishing on October 31. During the show's finale, the group was crowned the winner of Queendom, hence winning the prize of a full-length comeback show to be broadcast on Mnet. As a portion of the show, Mamamoo released various songs, including a cover of AOA's 2016 hit "Good Luck" and their original finale song "Destiny".


2019 November – Mamamoo discharged their second full album, Reality in Black with the lead single "Hip" following their Queendom victory. Reality in Black debuted and topped on the Gaon Album Chart, whereas "Hip" peaked at number four on the Digital Chart. "Hip" also debuted at number five on the World Digital Songs Sales chart and peaked on the chart in its second week.






2020 February - Mamamoo released their third Japanese song, "Shampoo", as a digital single.




2020 March - The song, at the side of the Japanese version of "Hip", is included in the Japanese version of Reality in Black. The Japanese edition of the album was released and peaked at number 27 on the Oricon Albums Chart with 2,500 copies sold.



2020 February - Moonbyul became the first member to release a solo project in 2020, releasing her debut EP Dark Side of the Moon.




2020 April - Solar released her debut single "Spit It Out" and its accompanying single album. Following the single' s debut at number 12 and subsequent top at number six, Mamamoo became the second Korean group in which every part had a solo song chart on Billboard's World DigitalSongSales chart.






2020 September - Mamamoo released a promotional single, "Wanna Be Myself”. The "nostalgic" and "minimalist" music video was released in conjunction with the song itself and picked up 3.8 million views in its to begin with 24 hours of being discharged. The single topped at number 93 on the Gaon Digital Chart and at number 11 on the Billboard World DigitalSongsSales chart.




2020 October - Mamamoo announced their tenth EP, due out in November. "Dingga" (딩가딩가), the first single off of the EP, was pre-released ahead of the album. The disco-influenced pop song, characterized by themes of isolation and longing in the COVID-19 pandemic, was described by TeenVogue as a "fun, chill" dance track accompanied by a "striking, retro-inspired music video to match." Driven by a "simple tune line and offbeat vibes," the single earned the best ten positions in South Korea and on the Billboard World DigitalSongsSales chart and further charted in Singapore and Japan.




2020 November - The complete EP, titled Travel, and it's second single, "Aya", was discharged on November 3. Travel received blended receptions for its need for cohesion, and it peaked at number two on the Gaon Album Chart. The EP broke the group's individual sales records, offering a detailed 100,000 duplicates in its to-begin-with day and over 128,000 duplicates in its to begin with week, and furthermore topped iTunes charts in 29 nations. Described as a "180-degree flip" from the retro-pop fashion of "Dingga," the second single from Travel, "Aya," was described by critics as being "alluring" and "captivating" and topped inside the best 40 of the Gaon Advanced Chart.



2021 January - RBW announced that Solar and Moonbyul had renewed their contracts with the agency, while Wheein and Hwasa were still currently discussing contract renewals.




2021 March - Hwasa officially renewed her contract with RBW, with Wheein's contract remaining under discussion. Later on, RBW also confirmed that Mamamoo will stay together and won't disband.









2021 May - Mamamoo held a global virtual concert on the live-streaming platform LIVENow, becoming the first South Korean music act to hold a concert on the platform.















2021 June – Mamamoo’s eleventh EP, WAW, was released, along with the lead single "Where Are We Now". WAW topped the iTunes albums charts in 21 countries worldwide, and according to the Hanteo chart, it sold over 40,000 domestic copies on its first day of release.

In the same month, RBW announced that Wheein would be leaving the company as she has chosen not to renew her solo contract with the agency. However, she signed a second contract extension to remain a member of Mamamoo until at least December 2023.




2021 September - A compilation album, titled I Say Mamamoo: The Best, was released alongside the lead single "Mumumumuch". The album peaked at number eight on the Gaon Album Chart.
















2022 March - Mamamoo released the Japanese edition of You're the Best.



2022 August - RBW announced that members Solar and Moonbyul would be forming the group's first official subunit, Mamamoo+, with an expected album release at the end of the month.













2022 October - Mamamoo released their 12th EP titled Mic On and the lead single "Illella".
