Blackpink (Korean: 블랙핑크; commonly stylized as BLACKPINK or BLΛƆKPIИK) is a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment, consisting of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. The group debuted on August 8, 2016.


What does Blackpink Stand For?

The meaning of Blackpink aims to contradict the common perception of the color pink. Pink is commonly used to portray prettiness, but Blackpink actually means to say that ‘Pretty isn’t everything’. It also symbolizes that they are a team that encompasses not only beauty but also great talent.


What Does the Fandom Name BLINK Mean?

BLINK was announced on January 14th, 2017. BLINK is the combination of the words ‘Black’ and ‘Pink’, just like the group name, and that’s why it was called BLINK. In Korean, BLINK was written with 블링크.

Jisoo is the eldest of the Blackpink girls, but she is the youngest child of her family. She has known for being quirky and thinking outside of the box. Unlike other members, Jisoo cannot speak English fluently, but she can understand very well thanks to Jennie. She also can play the piano and her favorite color is purple.

2016 Aug - Promotions for their debut began in the first week of August 2016 with the release of teaser images, videos, and advertisements. They released their debut single album, Square One.


2016 Aug 8 - Consisting of tracks "Boombayah" and "Whistle", they charted at number one and two on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.


2016 August 14 - On SBS's Inkigayo, Blackpink won first place on Inkigayo 13 days after their debut, breaking the record for the shortest time for a girl group to win on a music program after debut.

2017 Jan - Blackpink revealed the name of their fan club—"Blink", a portmanteau of "black" and "pink."


2017 Jun - They released their first standalone digital single, "As If It's Your Last". The song debuted at number one on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart one day after release, making it their third number-one hit on the chart.


2017 Jun - "As If It's Your Last" music video break the record for the most-liked music video by a Korean girl group on YouTube as well as the most-viewed K-pop group music video in the first 24 hours of release.



2018 Jun - Blackpink released their first Korean-language EP, titled Square Up. The lead single, "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du", debuted at number 17 on the Official Trending Chart in the UK, making them the first female K-pop group to enter the chart since its launch in 2016.


2018 Jun - "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" also debuted at number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, with 12.4 million U.S. streams and 7,000 downloads in the tracking week ending June 21, 2018, making Blackpink the highest-charting Korean girl group on the chart.


2018 Jun - Square Up also brought the group their first entry and the highest-charting album by an all-female K-pop group at the time of its release on the Billboard 200, debuting at number 40 with 14,000 equivalent units.


2018 Jul - Blackpink embarked on their sold-out first Japan tour, Blackpink Arena Tour 2018, in Osaka from July 24 to 25 to promote their Japanese EP.


2018 Oct - Singer Dua Lipa released "Kiss and Make Up" with Blackpink. The song debuted at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Blackpink's second entry in the chart and making them the only Korean girl group to score multiple entries on the chart


2018 Dec - "Kiss and Make Up" also became their second entry in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 36, and their first top 40 entry. They were the first female Korean group and third Korean act overall to reach the top 40.


2019 Feb - Blackpink made their American debut on an invite-only event at the Universal Music Group's 2019 Grammy Artist Showcase in Downtown Los Angeles.


2019 Mar - Blackpink became the first-ever K-pop girl group to cover Billboard magazine.


2019 Apr - Blackpink released their third extended play, "Kill This Love". "Kill This Love" debuted at number 24 on the Billboard 200, while the lead single reached number 41 on the Hot 100, becoming the highest-charting releases by a female Korean act on the two major Billboard charts. The song also ranked at number 66 on Billboard's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2019.

2019 Apr 12,19 - Blackpink performed at the 2019 Coachella Festival, making them the first female K-pop group to do so.


2020 Apr - Blackpink confirmed to collaborating with Lady Gaga on the track titled "Sour Candy".


2020 May - On the Billboard Hot 100, "Sour Candy" debuted at number 33. The song also becoming the group's highest-charting song in the United States at the time, as well as the highest-charting song by a K-pop girl group.


2020 Jun - Blackpink collaborated with ZEPETO, a South Korean 3D avatar service operated by Naver Z, to offer fans characters that correspond to each member that allows fans to see the characters sing and dance, as well as take pictures together on the app.


2020 Jun - The single "How You Like That" was heavily teased on social media. The song became Blackpink's fifth song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and its music video broke five Guinness World Records.


2020 Aug - Blackpink released a second single "Ice Cream" with American singer Selena Gomez. The song debuted and peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Blackpink's highest-charting song on the chart.


2020 Oct 2 - Blackpink's debut Korean studio album, The Album, was made available. Its third and lead single was "Lovesick Girls."It peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and the UK Album Chart, making Blackpink the highest-charting Korean female act on each chart.

2020 Oct 14 - Blackpink first documentary film, "Blackpink: Light Up the Sky" premiered on Netflix.

2020 Oct 21 - in the US, Blackpink performed "Lovesick Girls" on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Good Morning America.

Blackpink announced on December 2 that they will be working with YouTube Music for their debut livestream performance. The "The Show" live event was originally scheduled for December 27, 2020, however it was moved to January 31, 2021. The event was live-streamed in 100 countries, and more than 280,000 individuals paid subscription fees to access it.



On July 31- it was revealed that Blackpink will release a pre-release single called "Pink Venom" on August 19, accompanied by a world tour that started on October 15 in Seoul and is scheduled to end in June 2023.






On Aug 28 - Blackpink performed "Pink Venom" at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, making them the first female K-pop group in history to perform at the show, and won the award for Best Metaverse Performance for The Virtual.




On Sep 16 - Blackpink's second studio album, Born Pink, and the first single, "Shut Down," became the group's second song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200.





Blackpink, the first Korean act to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, was revealed as one of the headliners on January 10, 2023. The group is scheduled to play on April 15 and 22.






Blackpink played "Pink Venom" and "Shut Down" with musicians Gautier Capuçon and Daniel Lozakovich on January 28 in Paris at the Le Gala des Pièces Jaunes charity event hosted by Brigitte Macron, the First Lady of France.
